Urban Species presents:
Evermean!
To coincide with the release of EVM’s “Groove Content EP” EVM128 is
releasing a range of limited edition t-shirts.
Ross Allen’s Meltdown Music Recordings imprint kick-starts into life with
this stunning mini album / EP from Welsh native and production talent EVM
128.
EVM’s music holds a fine balance between the contemporary and the classic,
between UK garage, broken hip-hop, and the vibe of reggae, house and soul,
wrapped in velvety production and a technical style all of his own.
Title track ‘Groove Content’ has been a mainstay on Ross’s weekly Ministry
of sound show for six months. It’s now in the hands of Gilles Peterson who
instantly hailed it as 'a classic' and 'right up his street,' using the
title track to full effect when tearing up the main stage at this years’
Sonar Festival. Gilles has since featured 'Groove Content' in his 'Top 50
Tracks of the Year So Far' section on his infamous BBC Radio 1 show and
continues to show support. Huw Stephens of Radio 1 also made EVM’s remix of
Lingo Scott’s ‘Elope’ his Record of The Week back in Sept 2010.
The other tracks on the EP are of a more down beat nature but equally as
inspiring; from the Dilla-esque, tech-hop of ‘Falling’ (which features EVM’s
vocal talents), to the vocodered groove of The ‘Slow Jam’ and the teched out
boom-bap of ‘D N A.’ Liverpudlian vocalist Amy Wilson features and writes on
the track ‘Stay,’ a reggae-inflected garage gem, plus the more forward
thinking ‘U Want More.’ It's a diverse EP; Short and sweet and super catchy.
2012 looks set to be a big year for this guy. So far he’s remixed ex-Zero 7
singer Sophie Barker, breakbeat whiz's Hyper, Island Records signed Kid
Adrift and DJ Vadim. He has also produced a track for fellow Meltdown Music
artist Afrikan Boy (the MC behind viral smash ‘Lidl’ and guest MC on MIA’s
Paper Planes).
Being supported by:
Adam walton BBC Radio Wales and on BBC iplayer
Giles Peterson BBC Radio One
